Lots of activities for families of all ages. The north river part of the Platte River flows by the park on the north side. Very picturesque. Has an animal zoo with free roaming beautiful Peacocks. Also the public city swimming pool is located there, tennis courts and a skateboard area. Locally preferred walk up ice cream store in the summer is always busy selling delicious ice cream. Also a small children's rides area is close to the ice cream store. Outdoor covered picnic area is large enough for several families. All free parking, popular for walking.
Best ice cream on earth! No joke. The park and rides brings nostalgia and a place to forge new memories with your own offspring, should you choose to have any. Great for dates, hot summer days/nights, or any time you just want to feel like a kid again and have some good food at a good price. Then you can go look at all the animals, check out the platte river, or head to Cody Pool to cool off in the summer.
It is a great park. We went to see the Christmas displays, ride the carousel and hay ride. In the summer the pool is open, the little kids rides are open and inexpensive. The concession stand is open. There are trains on display and an old train station. It has a camping area also.
Cody park overall okay. Yet in 20 plus years nothing has really changed much. Except the concession stand.
Cody Park is a very well cared for city park that is a great place for family gatherings, exercise, and spending quality time with young children. There is no gate fee and the playground facilities are always clean and in excellent condition. Cody Park swimming pool is an Olympic sized pool , that includes diving boards and a good sized "baby pool". The pool house is staffed by attendants at all times and you have the option of keeping your belongings with you or storing them in baskets which are shelved behind counter at no cost to the patrons. The pool is in excellent condition, water always clean and clear, and the staff is well trained and certified in first aid and CPR. Cody Park Pool is definitely a great place to cool off and burn off extra energy! Cody Park also offers something for the little tykes at the Concession & Rides area featuring a beautiful and authentic Carousel, along with 4-5 other carnival type rides and tickets are super cheap also. There are slow pitch softball diamonds, horseshoe pits, nature trails and all kinds of animals that one can see close up such as llamas, buffalo, peacocks, ducks & geese. There is also an incredible Union Pacific Locomotive display that is really incredible. Cody Park is the home to most of the Railfest, offers many other seasonal treats also along with Arts in the Park!!! North Platte has one of the finest Park Departments around with people who know what they are doing running it! Lyle Minshull, Park dept director, is a super guy and has been doing an incredible job for many years and it shows!
